This is one of my favorite buildings in downtown Sarasota: the Federal Building, which is actually owned by the City of Sarasota. It was constructed in the early 1930's as part of the WPA under President Roosevelt and the New Deal. Congress approved $175,000 for it. It served as a post office, then a social security office before the City of Sarasota acquired it several years ago and restored it. Now, city administrative offices are housed here. U.S. Representative Vern Buchanan also has an office on the second floor. It's especially eye catching at night, don't you think? This is another one of those shots I've been meaning to take and since it was a nice night I finally got around to it.

It is a beautiful, classical building.
It was worth the wait.
I can understand why it's one of your favorites—it's a lovely building. And your night shot is beautiful.
I love the old classic buildings like this. Now days they do everything on the cheap. I love the time of day you took the picture, it makes the marble stand out.
How cool would it be to work in such a beautiful building SRQ. And yes it does look fab lit up at night...
I love it! It looks great at night too. :)
I remember passing that building in the daylight many years ago and was impressed. This photo really brings out the grandeur - as Florida buildings go anyway.
Yes, it is a nice building, and you captured it well. There is a similar building in Fort Myers, which started -- I think -- as a post office in the 1920s or 30s. I think it now houses county offices.
What a nice shot! You caught the night lighting beautifully. It's a grand old building and thankfully it's been kept and restored.
I love these type of buildings. Classic Revival maybe. The columns evoke so much romance. Today everything is steel and glass - cold and hard.
Thanks for the info behind the scenes.
This is a beautiful building.
Great information! It's a beauty and reminds me of many Carnegie libraries I've seen in different cities.
