I believe this is a tri-colored heron on a fishing expedition in Sarasota Bay next to Ken Thompson Park. I had just bumped up the shutter speed in hopes of capturing the bird popping up with a flailing fish. Turns out, I really like the water drops frozen in mid-air, which depict the quick force of the bird shoving its beak into the water. It also shows action...and, that's today's theme in the City Daily Photo community. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants. And...check in tomorrow to see what the heron caught for dinner!

Brilliant action !
May I ask what camera you use? I'm thinking of changing mine and am curious as to what others are using.
This photo is so amazingly clear that the water drops look like 3D coming right at me! So cool!
Nice shot. I think that's a reddish egret, though. Tri-color's are white on the underside, but you may just not be able to see that in this angle.
great capture, i like those drops also.
This image is fantastic on so many levels SRQ. Love the reflections that are being made all shimmery by the movement of his head, and the water splashes are brilliant, superb shot indeed!!
Awesome shot!
I actually managed to capture one of these guys during a hunting trip for lizards;

Took about 100 shots to get it though haha
You got action and reflection in the same beautiful image!
What you say is right.
Those water drops speak a lot about the speed of the dart into the water to catch the prey.
Its really interesting to watch these birds go about their daily business.
good choice : poor fish!!
THis is lovely! I love the way the water seems to stand still. You've caught the action perfectly here.
So great. I couldn't help but laugh out loud! Wow!
