1 cow + 1 bird = 1 cattle egret. I encounterd ths cattle egret doing its job in rural Sarasota County. My 'Birds of Florida' field guide says they breed in colonies of 1,000+ pairs. 1,000???? Holy cow.
Nice shot of the two of them. I had one of those birds land in my back yard one time and he walked around for awhile until he started rooting around in the ground and suddenly he grabbed a frog and swallowed it whole! Then he flew off and I've never seen another one in my yard. It was pretty funny.

We have tons of them on our farm (but not a thousand). They hang out with the cows and follow them around all day long.
Love egrets. Glad this guy found a friend.

Strange bedfellows!
It looks so tiny next to that cow!
Do you think they fell for each other?! :-)
