Hittin' the Town

Ever since Southeastern Guide Dogs set up shop on Main Street a few months ago, I see adorable pooches like this one going for walks around downtown all the time.  Make no mistake --- this isn't a joy walk.  It's work.  From what I can gather, they walk a four block path and along the way they stop and practice commands (and receive lots of positive reinforcement).  I'm sure this guy is going to make a great companion for someone.  Click here to see some of the other cute canines in the program.

He does look determined to do a good job! He's adorable.

Hope you're having the loveliest holidays!

Many thanks for your patience, and for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comment. Come visit again tomorrow!

These are wonderful and amazing dogs, and can give a new lease (leash?) on life for a lot of people. We have a Golden Retriever and if she had been properly trained when young, she would have made a good guide dog...now, though, it's too late...she runs up to everybody just to get petted.

Hope you had a great holiday and have a healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year!

Thank God for guide dogs and this one is a beauty. I'd have to refrain from smooching! ;-)

In greater Hartford, there is an organization called Fidelco that trains guide dogs for blind people. They are often very large black German Shepherd dogs. I admire the people who volunteer to train a dog for a year or two before the dog is placed with someone who needs it.

Thanks for your comments this afternoon. I split time between Florida and Connecticut (and Ohio). Summers in CT and winters in FL, but I go back and forth depending on what is going on. Was in CT for Christmas but back in FM tonight for a while. Be well.
