Ta-dah!

SDP 3-14-17
There's something to be said about the enthusiasm of a child. 4-and-a-half-year-old Zara (remember when you insisted on including the half-year?) was absolutely thrilled by the wet sand she discovered on Lido Beach in Sarasota. She ran to the water, scooped up a handful and ran back several times, each time just as excited as the last, proudly displaying her slimy find with a smile and a laugh.  Love that zest for the simple things in life!   Zara and her mom were my house guests over the weekend -- great fun!  I'm now preparing for Sarasota Spring Break House Guests Part II, which unfolds later this week.  There's nothing like living in the Sunshine State in March!   Rest always takes a back seat until April.

What a cutie! I love her hair! We've been missing the beach something awful. Can't wait to get back there again. It's warming up here in PA at least. We never really had winter so we didn't have to shovel even a speck of snow. Whoot!

Zara was amazed by the wet sand. That's clearly seen on her face. I think its nice to stay there at Sarasota.

Does she live by the beach? I always wanted to go a vacation to the beach when I was a kid. It always sounded so exotic.

You captured the beauty of this child so well in this portrait. Love the description of her enthusiasm and joy!

Outstanding portrait, SRQ. You have to give her this one, nicely framed. It is a keeper.

I thought the portrait was John the Baptist, too, and spent a lot of googling time trying to identify it. The Atheneum has a different Caravaggio (St. Francis, not Salome/John the Baptist). BUT, there is a different "head on a platter" painting, Lucas Cranch the Elder, Feast of Herod. Do a google search with some of those words and you will find the painting that terrified Susie.

There was also a nearby painting of General Wolfe dying on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec. The paintings were great but too gory for Susie at the age we first took her through the museum.

Brilliant shot SRQ, the smile, the colour and without doubt the curly hair make it a beauty!
