Tent = Trouble

If you see a tent like this covering a house or any building in Florida, it can mean only one thing:  termites.  Pest companies are hired to cover a structure and fumigate the inside.  During the process, you have to move out  --- definitely not fun.  I spotted this tent in the Golden Gate neighborhood in downtown.

I've always found this process so interesting and enviable (not the termites!) because we have no such cover when houses here get treated. Can't fumigate, therefore, so the chemicals are pumped or injected into the walls or ground.

Not very discrete, is it? Is there any stigma attached to this, or does it lower the value of the property? I feel for the owners!

Hi James Mark....good to have you back! I would say there's a teensy temporary stigma only in that everyone knows you're experiencing a termite problem. The good thing, though, is that it's obvious the problem is being addressed.

at least its colorful. I remember a funny movie that had its plot line about a family moving out of a house like this. I forget the name though.

We have LOTS of termites here in Arizona but I've never seen a house get tented. Just the thought makes me want to take a Xanax!
