Selby Library

After giving you a sneak peek of the Selby Public Library in this photo, I thought it only fair to show a wideshot which gives more perspective.  It's a sprawling two story structure covering 78,000 square feet with enough room to hold 300,000 volumes.  Yes, those are large columns --- and they wrap around the building to the right for a block!   They're circa 1998, when the library opened in this location in downtown.

A very unusual building. I can't quite figure out what styles are in play here. Sort of Roman coliseum meets art deco meets vanilla ice cream.

Nice looking building, I am sure it gets plenty of use when school is out.

I have this inexplicable urge for a chocolate-chip cookie.

Well, this certainly is a different take on a look of a Library. Your columns here look a lot different than Brattcat's today too. Different time, different look.

What a great looking library. I'll have to check it out the next time I visit my mom in Venice:)

LD's comment made me laugh. Those are very unusual columns, but I love the sunburst metal grills over the windows.

Very interesting design. The columns are most unusual. 78,000 makes quite a warehouse of books.
