And I thought I was having a bad hair day! I encountered this adorable black crowned night heron at Hart's Landing near downtown Sarasota. I'd like to say I'm such a proficient ornithologist that I immediately identified this guy; however, that would be a bit of a stretch. I actually had a difficult time figuring out what type of feathered creature this is, despite searching online. Then, I posted it to Flickr and had a positive ID from a birder within minutes. How cool is that?!

Love the shot!
Great shot. I love your interpretation of a bad hair day. He looks like someone just stole his pretzel, or french fries.
Great shot! I love his "hair"! I have a photo of one that was at our friends restaurant in Nokomis. He was sitting on the rail right next to where we tied up the boat. I had to search on line to find out what he was too. I called it just a night heron, I'll bet he was a black crowned night heron too! (I think he is in my Intercoastal Waterway post)
Good to know you had to look it up too :D
This just makes me laugh. Your bad hair comment, his hair, expression and flat footed stance are all very comical. I have to shoot your comment back at you, you find the mundane and turn it into something whimsical.
I like his "hairstyle"!:)
Nice shot!
I'm late in commenting! Have had busy days. I love the expression this guy's face. Would really like to know what's going through his brain! He could almost be a comic book character.
