Where I live, the garages are so small you can't fit a car in them, so you have to park in the driveway, but then there's only room for one car. And heaven forbid you have company, because then there's nowhere for them to park, except maybe in the grass. :(
But I give up, what's coming? Is it a parking meter that charges my Smart Pass? That would be cool. :)
Ernie: Good thing you have a nice neighbor, which makes the conditions you describe somewhat tolerable. : ) A meter that charges a Smart Pass -- clever indeed! Yes, meters are coming. Just a smidge of downtown will be metered -- still lots of free parking (for those who don't mind a short stroll).
If you're city "fathers" are like ours, this is a new meter to gain more revenue from finally-strapped citizens while they give their corporate friends more tax breaks.
In Vancouver the parking meters are all slowly migrating to the kind where you can use a credit card. That's because nobody carries enough change on them in order to pay for the time they need anymore given the rates. It can cost $2.00 to $6.00 per 30 minutes depending on the location! Ridiculous. Who can afford that with a bunch of nickels or even quarters in their pocket?!
The meters in Hartford are also changing to the credit card type. I like the current ones that use quarters. I just toss any quarters I get as change into the car's cupholders and I have plenty when I need them. I prefer to reserve credit cards for meaningful charges, not a buck or two for parking. But, no one asked me . . .
Oh, my goodness, Clueless in Boston says you have to use a credit card to pay your parking tickets? Hallelujah! Maybe now I can get my mother to get a debit or a credit card. Of course, where we live, there are no parking meters, so I guess she will still balk! We still have the joys of small towns!

The world is supposed to end today, so I wouldn't worry too much about what's "coming soon." :)

Here in my very, very small town parking meters were taken out quite a few years ago. I hope they don't return!
