Vacated

These barricades are erected outside Dolphin Tower, a condominium complex along the bayfront, to prevent anyone from getting too close to the structure, after a structural failure was discovered last month in the 15 story building.  Significant cracks were found on the fourth floor....so significant, that the city posted a notice to vacate, officially giving residents 24 hours to evacuate.  Private structural engineers for Dolphin Tower are working to stabilize the structure, but the 38-year-old building is still shifting and unsafe to inhabit.  No one has ever heard of something like this happening in Sarasota and the community is pulling together for those who live in the 117 condos, with some nearby hotels are offering discounts to residents.  Right now, though, it's unclear how long they might have to stay away -- could be months.  Can you imagine?

Wow weird. "a structural failure...in the 15 story building" 24 hrs to vacate. What a nightmare! Also checking in to say hang in there with losing the pup. Not an easy thing..

Yeah, it's odd. After they left, a few days later they were given one hour to retrieve more belongings. A co-worker who lives there was vacationing in North Carolina when she got the phone call alerting her that she could return for one hour, so she drove over 12-hours straight to get back -- for that one hour. Crazy stuff. Thanks for your kind words and thoughts about Mully. I've been dreading this time for awhile. He was wonderful companion.

How scary! I would be afraid to go back because I would never feel safe in there again.

That's terrible. We have a similar incident with our bus transit mall and offices. The city has converted a nearby street as a temporary fix. Hopefully the affected residents can return to their homes soon.
