Crab Dinner

Dunlin?

This shorebird was enjoying more than a crab leg dinner in Sarasota Bay. After watching it dunk and shake the crustacean numerous times, I glanced away for the briefest of moments to adjust my shutter speed and  **poof** the crab was gone. I can only presume it went down the hatch --- legs and all.  I'm not exactly sure, but I believe this seafood loving bird is a dunlin or a willet.

When we were in Gulf Shores, AL, we saw hundreds of crabs every morning hanging out just inside the shoreline. After the sun was up, they buried themselves back under the sand. My daughter got freaked out and stayed out of the water after getting nipped by one. I wondered why the shorebirds weren't going after them but now I see that they actually do. Great catch!

An excellent shot. You can really see all the details. A neat catch for both you and the bird. :)

A beautiful photo of a beautiful bird. Poor crab!

I think we're going to take a little trip to Sarasota this fall. It's been too long since we've been there!

Nice capture, SRQ. You impress me by having two suggested names. I thought it was a shorebird with a long pointy bill.

Very nice. I like how you caught the water dripping from the crab.
