Lady Liberty of Light

Who has a Statue of Liberty lamppost in their front yard?!  That's what I thought when I spotted this on a quiet road in north Sarasota County.  I instantly loved it and had to return.  When I did, the owner, Barry, was puttering around in his golf cart and stopped for a chat.  He informed me the local newspaper published a photo of his Lady Liberty years ago.  (Darn....scooped...by the print media!)  He explained he needed a light in the front yard and found this one in Gibsonton (outside Tampa).  If you guessed he's a military veteran...you're right!  Both a WW II and Korean War vet, he launched a business in Sarasota back in 1968 called Barry's Trailers.  43 years later, his three children run his successful business.  He was nothing but smiles and reported he's in good health well into his eighth decade.  That's who has a Statue of Liberty lamppost in their front yard.

I think I know where you mean, but the picture isn't showing up... There's a flag-themed Lady Liberty down on Stickney Point if you want to start a series. :)

A Lady Liberty series --- what an idea! Have you ever had this problem with photos not appearing on Blogger? I just corrected today's problem, so you should be able to view it now. Occasionally photos I set on time delay don't publish properly and I can't figure out why.

There was a Lady Liberty in Phoenix in the front yard of an older home that I featured on my blog sometime last year I believe. A few months before I left Phoenix the home sold and the new owners had her removed! Of all the nerve! She was a read landmark in town and had been featured in numerous magazine and newspaper articles. I was so bummed!

If Barry happens to read this, thanks for his service, and I hope he stays healthy into his ninth decade. Love the lamp. I find I usually scoop the print around here, especially sports :-).

3 inches of snow on the ground today
