Extended Holiday

This festive wreath was spotted near downtown Sarasota just a couple of days ago.  How long is too long to have Christmas decorations up?  Discuss.

Too long? January 2! Even the stores start showing Valentine motifs by that date I think!

It feels as if it were Christmas time here. Brrr. I take our decorations down right after, however, there is always one or two things I have missed, and I usually discover them in June. Always on the insided of the house, never on the outside. Decorations on the ourside should be removed by or on Jan 1st. Our HOA would send a letter: please remove the merriment from the front of your home. The Grinch.

I think some people are really busy so maybe give it until the 10th? But the end of Jan? Way too late!!

Around here, there are still a ton of Christmas things up in peoples yards and on buildings. It can't be helped though, we've got about 3 feet of snow on the ground and everything is frozen. The lights are frozen onto the houses, fences and bushes. Some people still light them up at night, I think just for the humor of it. With more snow on the way, I think they may stay up Spring. It's like the Christmas that wouldn't end around here.

Although that is a beautiful wreath, I think it is way too late for it to still be up. There is a house in my neighborhood that has Christmas lights on all year long and it always annoys me when I pass by.

Here are Christmas rules according to Jack: If you are a business, get it down by about January 2. However, if you are a residence, get rid of the lights and any large outdoor stuff by January 2, but it is OK to leave subtle wreaths up to relieve winter drabness until there are hints of spring. (In Hartford, it is common to see wreaths on doors until early March.)
