Stealthy Observer

Great Blue Herons can be quite stealthy, especially considering their size.  When I was at the New Pass Bait & Grill recently taking pictures of egrets, I turned around and was a bit startled to see this large guy standing a few feet behind me near a picnic table.  I guess he was patiently waiting for his close-up.  Here you go, Mr. GBH!

I thought you were going to say he was about to sit down... :-)

That is one exotic-looking (and handsome) bird!

Indeed, he is definitely lurking. "With intent", as our police would say:)

Lucky you! The only time I'm able to get close to these characters is when they are intent on fishing! I like that splash of red you included!

How is it all these magnificent creatures find themselves so close to your lens?

I think he was waiting for someone to drop a nasty nugget for his afternoon snack.

Love this shot. We have a few Great Blue's in my area, but I have never been able to photograph one.

Amazing shot! I need a telephoto lens (on my list) to capture the heron's we have here. Nice to see one up close like this.
