Move, Dear

Growing up in Michigan, I saw lots and lots of deer. They were ubiquitous. I recall one vacation as an adult in the Upper Peninsula when so many deer were popping out of the woods on a dark, winding road, I honked the car horn repeatedly to scare them back into the forest. And, yet, I get a little thrill when I see them down here in Florida. I spotted several families during my recent visit to Myakka State Park, including a doe who sauntered onto the main road and, sure enough, a moment later a smaller one followed. But the little guy was dawdling, taking its own sweet time crossing the road.  Finally, the doe gently pawed at the little one's rump to get a move on.  Sometimes it takes a nudge from someone who loves you to get you going in the right direction.

Like you, I get a little thrill when I see deer. Even though I live in a highly urban area, deer come out of the hills and are everywhere. If you live in the hills they eat your garden. I see them grazing next to 8 lane freeways when the sun is still high in the sky. Adaptable critters.

They are cute. But I used to worry alot about encountering one when driving at night in Mississippi. Glad this lady got her little one out of the street quickly!

Great shot! It looks like the little one is getting big enough that it needs some extra efforts to get the message across. Perhaps like a human teen?

Not only do you see the most amazing creatures, you remember to take a photo too. I watched two moose cross a road for 10 minutes once in TN and remembered I was holding my camera the second they shot off into the woods.

I hear that there are deer in the community I live in in Naples, but I haven't seen any. Your comment about a friendly nudge from someone who cares about you is impressively philosophical.

aw, what perfect timing that you were there with your camera?

It is cool that they know they were crossing a road, which meant danger. I'm glad.
