Santa Manatee

A sure sign Christmas is right around the corner in Sarasota is the appearance of Santa Manatee.  Ten-and-a-half-months out of the year, he's just a sea cow holding a mailbox.  But, immediately after Thanksgiving he tosses his pilgrim hat aside and transforms into Santa Manatee, which (of course) makes me smile on my way to and from work.   So, now the entire SDP staff is being dispatched to locate (and photograph) the most interesting and unusual Christmas decorations in Sarasota.  Ho...ho...ho!

That's one cool mailbox. Quite beautiful. I think a lot of ladies have a fairy of some sort that reminds them to dress things up. My wife does and she is also into seasonal flags.

Oh lol!!

Last time I was in the Pacific Northwest, I saw a Florida car with 'save the Manatee' on the registration number. Is it endangered?

We have stronger ordinances here. We require our Manatees to be clothed 24/7 365. No "Naturalists" here.

That is very funny. You must invite me when the people who own that house have a party.

I think he has a cousin in Fort Lauderdale.

Great pic - loved seeing the unusual Florida holiday decorations when we lived there. Palm trees lit with lights - love it.

Nice shot of the box. I always wanted a "florida" themed mailbox but then one day my husband said he'd knock it down and say some drunk kids did it. I do have a small concrete pelican in my yard. I may have to put a Santa hat on it. Now I'm inspired.
