And the Answer Is...

...(to yesterday's question)...to photograph birds!  Specifically, sandhill cranes.  Congratulations to my blog buddy and fellow ornithologist Dina at Dina's Wildlife City Adventures who answered correctly! Check out her blog ---her bird photos are amazing.   When I took this shot during a recent sunset at the celery fields, I counted approximately four dozen sandhill cranes.   The best part is watching them fly in.  Their wing span is amazing.  Hopefully, I'll capture a nice in-flight shot soon to share with you.

Classic and beautiful image with the reeds in the foreground. Also really like your new header photo. I'm less ornithologically challenged now that I've learned a few things from you! (that word was really hard to spell)

Wow - the answer to yesterday's quiz is awesome. Are these birds so rare or seasonal that so many photographers gathered to see them on that specific day or was it a contest, or a photo club outing?

LD - I always think I'm misspelling ornithology! And, thanks, regarding the new header.

Nathalie - Some sandhill cranes remain in the area year round. If you click on the 'sandhill crane' label it'll link to photos I took in the middle of July. But, I believe, large flocks migrate to the celery fields near sunrise and sunset at this time of year. Probably 8-10 photographers were out that evening (some amateurs; some pros) just trying to get the best sandhill crane shot they could get -- no contest. Pretty cool!

Beautiful birds. Also like the header. A flock of over 40,000 sandhill cranes winter in southeastern Arizona. Maybe we'll see one of your birds down our way soon.

Very nice, SRQ. I am new to Florida (Fort Myers in the winter) and don't think I have yet spotted sandhill cranes. I will start looking.

Oh what beautiful photos! We don't have anything that exotic looking up here in the east except blue herons, but those are few and far between. Lots of Canadian geese are migrating south this time of year. Wish I could join them!

I was driving my daughter to her friends house just now and there is a house on the way that feeds the birds. I counted a dozen storks or cranes sitting on the roof, not counting all that were in the tree, yard and bushes. This was just after 6:30PM. I used to pick her up after school from her friends everyday and some mornings and you never know when and what you'll find. Different kinds of herons, storks or cranes. I was going to give you the address to check it out. They look so funny hanging out in the tree!

I love your photo! I need go go out to the celery fields again, this time with a camera.
