Happy Mother's Day

 SDP 5-12-13
How could I not post this photo for Mother's Day?! I spotted this doe giving her fawn a bath early yesterday morning at Myakka River State Park in Sarasota. What a treat to get a peek into Bambi's typically private bath time.  While I'm quite certain Mom was aware of my presence, she was so focused on her morning cleaning ritual, she didn't pay any attention to me.  In fact, bath time went on long enough I had an opportunity to shoot some video with my DSLR (click HD in the viewer for optimum quality):

So precious!  By the way, this is the first time a video has been posted on SDP.  Occasionally, the SDP Editor-in-Chief likes to shake things up.

Big news here on the still photography front:  the SDP Purchasing Department signed off yesterday on the acquisition of a new lens -- a Tamron 18-270mm. Very exciting  -- I can't wait to take it out for a test run!  Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.

It's hard to believe you never spooked them. Usually it doesn't take much.

Super video, I need a purchasing office like yours!! Lovely lens, waiting for some super shots. How close were you to the deer ?Loved the way Mum's ears listened so carefully at the end, guess she had a great Mum's day too. Greetings from Jean.

Such a sweet moment! Our now-former next door neighbors were very tolerant about the deer that grazed their way across the property - and set up overnight camps below one window. The new neighbors told us that a welcoming party of 6 came down their driveway recently. Waiting to see if the welcome mat stays out.

Tamron 18-270 mm! That's the lens I've been eyeing! I'm really eager to hear what you think of it.

You really need your own nature show.

I believe that is the same lens that improved my photos so much in the last year - and I still shoot with a Nikon D70. My purchasing department went and bought a new house so the camera department will just need to make do for a while yet.
