Yesterday was National Plug in Day -- as in plug in your electric vehicle -- and there was quite a celebration in Sarasota. It started with a parade in downtown which included approximately 50 electric vehicles ranging from the rather pedestrian Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf to the high-end sporty Fisker Karma. Even some electric motorcycles were there. They paraded over the Ringling Bridge to St. Armands Circle where an all-day expo was held to educate folks about EVs. Most owners drive their EVs 10 miles or so and then plug in. And, in Sarasota there are nine EV charging stations in public parking areas where you can plug in for free. I understand you can get some great deals right now on the government subsidized Volt. The Telsa Roadster (that's the pretty blue car on the right) goes for a cool $120,000. To learn more about EVs, check out the Electric Auto Association. By the way, is anyone else having difficulties with the new Blogger format? I scheduled this post for midnight and it didn't publish at the designated time. Clarification: Depending on the EV, mileage can range from 30-200 miles on a full charge. Most EV owners, though, tend to use them just for driving short distances around town.

What fun! Hopefully, we'll see more of this kind of technology in the future. 'Tis still rather expensive.
I've not had a problem with publishing on Blogger, I just hate the new dashboard, etc., with a passion. Got to wonder if the people who design these things ever do any real blogging!

I'm not sure SRQ can you only get 10 miles to a charge and how long does it take to charge up I wonder. What if you're going on a long trip? Questions, questions haha! I haven't had any problems so far, touch wood!! All is well here in Perth except things just seem to get busier every day, how about you?
I noticed a charging station out on City Island in Ken Thompson Park the other day. Not sure why they'd put one way out there, but whatever.
Ten miles? They are going to have to do better than that if they are going to gain a following.
I live in a farming/remote "ish" type of area, and electric vehicles have not really caught on. Ten miles? Not a lot of incentive.
Oh my some bad info here, I would like to set the record straight.
Most EVs range from 30 to 300 miles depending on the vehicle.
I drove from Valrico, FL to Sarasota I made it to South Brandenton on electric that was 51 miles on my chevy volt. On a day to day drive (work and home) I average 40 miles on electric. Not sure who told you 10 miles but it is more than that it also one of the best drives I have ever had.
The Fisksr Karma gets 50 miles but does have a 9 gallon tank that kicks in automatically. The car in the picture the pretty blue Is actually a Tesla Roadster which range from 80 to 300 miles depending the package you purchase.
EV is the way of the future. I am excited to be a part of it.
