Full House

SDP 11-20-11
Recently, I was shooting a construction site near downtown when I heard really loud chirping emanating from a tree in a busy parking lot. So many house sparrows were tucked inside, hiding on the branches, the tree was actually shaking! It took awhile, but I managed to get this shot (above)...of what I believe to be a female house sparrow. And also this photo...

...which I believe is a male house sparrow. (Apparently, he was going out on a limb to see what I was doing.) I was staring at that tree for probably 20-25 minutes in a fast food parking lot, and believe it or not, not a single person inquired what I was looking at. They all just walked and drove by, oblivious to   nature's abundance in that tree.

House sparrows are cute, but can be a nuisance. They have been known to invade bluebird nests and kill their young. But nature is nature and I like all kinds of birds. :)

Wonderful catch SRQ, it's amazing that such small birds can make so much noise. I've been in that situation too, but Australian passers-by must be a lot more curious, so many questions haha!

These are both excellent shots. It goes take a lot of patience to get good photos of little birds like this. We have little bluebirds with orange chests and they're cute but flit around so fast I've never been able to capture one.

I've observed that when birds make a racket, something is usually going on...a predator nearby, one of the babies on the ground or feeding time. Nature has many alarms to listen for. Sadly, most people are busy staring into their phones these days. They miss so much. Glad you don't SRQ!

Probably upset about trees falling all around. Home sweet home... GONE!

What a sweet couple. No doubt they were voicing their opinions about the construction mess.

Its so sad that the common sparrow is no more common now a days.
