Living in Harmony

SDP 1-24-16

So...two ducks, an alligator and a great blue heron are all sitting around a cemetery…

SDP 1-24-16B

…and up walk two sandhill cranes.
No joke!
This actually happened at Sarasota National Cemetery yesterday.

SDP 1-24-16D

The heron was a bit skittish and flew a feet few away….apparently out of respect for the big cranes and to make room for them.   (The ducks and gator didn't move.  And, actually, seemed bored by the sudden activity.)

Then, something interesting happened:  they all stayed within a few yards of each other without any incidents….all living in harmony.

Is this/these the shot/s of a lifetime? Stay safe, in case the big storm comes your way.

I'd be nervous with the gator there.

I'm really glad you didn't witness anything gruesome. You never know with gators. They scare me. We've seen them in the Mobile Bay waters when we've had our dog on the beach and we get out of there quick.

The effect of all that peace and quiet maybe?!

Quite a combination! lol Makes you wonder why they can get along, but people cannot.

I understand that gators don't really need to eat that often. I wonder if the birds know when they're hungry.

Quite an interesting combination there. Too bad people can't get along as well as these critters!

LOL! It does sound like the beginning of a bad joke...I was just waiting for the "walk into a bar" line. :-) I'm guessing the avian crew sense the gator isn't interested in hunting.

Great scene...and wonderful narrative. I haven't seen many sandhill cranes so the closeup is a real treat. I can't imagine hanging out in that kind of proximity to a gator!
